A Study on Degree of Satisfaction on Clinical Practice

Abstract
The objective of this study is to find out the factors affecting the satisfaction of the students at the department of Dental Technology of junior health colleges for their clinical practice and provide the basic data necessary for the better planning of the curriculum for the clinical practice. The questionnaires were distributed to and collected from 261 juniors of five health colleges in April, 2002. All statistical analyses were carried out using SPSS/PC+. The general characteristics of students and the current clinical practice conditions were presented in real numbers and percentages. The questionnaire scores for the degree of satisfaction vary from 0 to 5, 0 being the worst and 5 being the best. The degree of satisfaction for clinical practice was presented as the average score and the standard deviation for each item was shown. 1. The degree of satisfaction for the curriculum was assessed in total eight aspects, and the overall average score was 2.83, which was a little low. The degree of satisfaction for duration was scored as 3.13, which was the highest. That for environment was scored as 3.07, which suggested relatively high satisfaction for these aspects. The degrees of satisfaction for subjects. evaluation method of clinical practice. education. practice contents, achievement after clinical practice, personal relationship in practice were presented 2.95, 2.89. 2.83, 2.76, 2.51, 2.48 respectively. The degree of satisfaction for personal relationship was the lowest among them. 2. The students favored the clinical practice course offered in the first semester of their junior years and total 16 weeks (3 days a week) as duration of clinical practice. 3. The major complaints of the students during the clinical practice were repetition of simple works. insufficient rest place and conflict with practice teachers. 4. The students got clinical practice more frequently about crown and bridge prosthetic dentistry. The topics which the students wanted to get more clinical practice about were porcelain prosthetic dentistry and partial denture prosthetic dentistry. As mentioned above, as the degree of satisfaction for the achievement after clinical practice and item for the necessity of clinical practice showed relatively low scores, we suppose that the students are negative about their clinical practice.
